What the experts say
Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg): Patience. Football moves fast but FPL should be played slowly.
Methodical picks are better than knee-jerk ones and if you missed a player's haul, it's gone. Don't miss your own player's haul by getting rid of him too early.
Neal Thurman (@nealjthurman): Remind yourself every Gameweek not to base your next transfer(s) on what you just saw beforehand.
It's hard not to react to the most recent information but it's rarely the best indicator of future results.
Ben McNair (@drbenmcnair): Minimise the risk of ending up in a position where you think you can justify spending points on a transfer.
Save free transfers when possible, make transfers close to deadlines and buy players you'd be happy to keep long-term.
Nick (@WGTA_FPL): Don't rush your decisions and avoid rage transfers. Often a player is in your team for a reason and if they blank one week they can easily deliver the following match.
Holly Shand (@FFCommunity_): My golden rule this season is one I haven't adopted before, because value looks even more important than ever with the opening blank Gameweek.
I'm going to look very closely at price points in my squad to give myself flexibility to hop on and off premium options as the fixtures settle down in the opening weeks.
Paul Gee (FPLPaulGee): Don't chase team value. Success and team value go hand in hand and shouldn't be forced.
Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily): Up until Christmas, especially, keep a close eye on the markets for price rises and falls.
It's so important to build team value so that come the middle and end of the season your budget is enough to increase the number of premium players you own, thus giving you an advantage for the end-of-season push.
Pranil Sheth (@Lateriser12): Have no rules, and adapt. FPL is a very dynamic game and opportunities arise every week.
Nick (@WGTA_FPL): I'm strongly considering a very early Wildcard. It will create a big opportunity to capitalise by bringing in Man Utd and Man City players when few others will have them, meaning they'll be big differentials. It'll also mean I can jump on any bandwagons for other players showing early form.
Pranil Sheth (@Lateriser12): I'm considering an early Wildcard but will play it by ear in the first two Gameweeks. If need be, I have no qualms about Wildcarding in Gameweek 3. But if I decide against that, I'm currently planning on bringing in a Man Utd attacker in Gameweek 2 and a Man City midfielder in Gameweek 3.
